Diabetes: When for some reason the amount of insulin coming out of the pancreas gland decreases or the release of insulin stops, then the level of glucose in the blood increases due to improper metabolism of blood sugar. This amount of increased sugar cannot be absorbed by the kidneys as well, due to which sugar also starts coming out through urine. This condition of having more than normal blood sugar level is called diabetes. This disease is called Madhuprameha in Ayurveda. The general meaning of diabetes is Madhu, which means honey, and Meha, which means rain (falling like water), thus diabetes means excreting urine like honey.
There are two main types of diabetes: insulin dependent diabetes and non-insulin dependent diabetes.

Home Remedies for Diabetes
Amla: (Indian gooseberry) fresh juice 10ml and 2 grams pure haldi (turmeric) powder well mixed and taken twice a day, effectively maintains the sugar level and imparts many side benefits like strength and vitality.
Bitter gourd: Karela possesses the well marked anti-diabetic activity. Ayurveda also recommends the daily use of this vegetable. Fresh juice of two karelas (approximately 20ml) should be taken on empty stomach in the early morning daily. The regular practice of this gives enormous benefits to the diabetics.
Black Berry: also known as kala jamun is another home remedy for diabetes. It is extensively used in Ayurveda and other systems of medicine — its bark, fruits, seeds are useful. The inner bark of the jamun tree is used in the treatment.
Fenugreek: The National Institute of Nutrition, (NIN), Hyderabad, recently found that fenugreek seeds are effective in controlling diabetes. It is found to be effective in lowering the serum cholesterol and triglycerides apart from sugar. Therefore, this item should be added to chapatis, and eaten regularly, apprx 25 gm of fenugreek seeds are needed daily.
Satavar: Juice of satavar mixed with equal quantity of milk taken once daily is very helpful in controlling sugar level in blood.
Sadabahar: Two-three flowers of Sadabahar is useful preventive method.
Brawn added atta for Chapatis, Methi, Karela and Palak, vegetable salad, jamun and fruit juices can control the diabetes.
Yoga Asanas for Diabetes Treatment
Paschimottanasana, Makarasana, Uddiyanabandh, Yogmudra, Ardhamatsyendrasana, Suptavajrasana, Uttanpadasana, Mayurasana and Nadishodhan Pranayama etc. are helpful postures for diabetes treatment.
Naturopathy for Diabetes Treatment:
First of all, to remove constipation, apply clay strip on the pendu daily and use Rasahar.
Take kati bath twice a day for 20-20 minutes, and take enema of lukewarm water.
Every day wet wrap of waist should be done for 45 minutes and feet should be fomented.
Whole body wet wrap (geelee lapet) should be done twice a week.
Use 50 grams of orange colored sunlight hot water 2 to 3 times a day.
Sunlight should be consumed in the morning and mustard oil should be massaged on the pelvis and the whole body.
Constipation and stress should not be allowed.
Fasting and Rasahar should be used.
Apart from this, one must walk at least 2 kilometers daily, it is very beneficial.
Relaxation, Shavasana, Yoga Nidra. Apart from this, eat light nutritious food.
Avoid sugary foods like rice, potatoes etc. Eat sprouted food.
Consume 20 grams of bitter gourd juice mixed with salt daily.
