Gas/ Flatulence
Excess gas in the stomach is definitely not a good condition, it is also considered bad manners, and many types of physical problems also arise due to excess gas formation in an average amount.If a sour after-taste in the mouth follows a belch, It is a symptom of indigestion and it also means we are expelling gases formed in the stomach.
Cause of Gas, Acidity and Flatulence
Excessive hot, spicy, fried food. Intake of fats, sweets, adulterated food. Intake of Alcohol. Excessive intake of chocolate, tea, coffee, garlic, onions and excessive smoking. Stress-related conditions like anger, fear, worrying. Excessive exposure to sun and heat.
Treatment of Gas/Flatulence
Avoid heavy smoking and pan eating. Cut down drastically on your daily number of cold drinks and cups of tea. Cut off intake of milk and sweets, if these increase gas. Eat less than appetite demands. Eat slowly, fully concentrating on the food, do not indulge in thinking while eating. Avoid onions, tomatoes, potatoes, peas, beans, dals and sweets in excess.
Home Remedies for Gas/Flatulence
Take 5 gm each of fried hing (by frying in ghee, hing becomes pure), black salt, cardamom (Elaichi) and dry ginger (sonth). Make fine powder, mix well and store in a clean bottle. 2 teaspoon of this powder can be given along with some lukewarm water 2 to 3 times a day which instantly gives relief from gas.
Similarly a mixture of 2 gm of ajmoda (celery seeds) and 1 gram saunph (Fennel) and sugar (as required) is given in doses of 1/2 to 1 teaspoon with lukewarm water. This also gives prompt relief from gas problems.
Take 1 part of hing, 2 parts of vacha, 3 parts of black salt, 4 parts of sonth (dry ginger), 5 parts of jeera, 6 parts of harar, 7 parts of pohkar mool and 8 parts of kuth and prepare a choorna. Take about 3 to 5 gm of this choorna twice or thrice daily with warm water for immediate relief from gas.
Cardamom is a highly useful home remedy. 5 gm of its powder can be taken with water.
Kumari Asava 20 ml with equal quantity of lukewarm water twice a day is also a good choice in gas problem. It is an Ayurvedic medicine.
Acidity- (heartburn)
Hyperacidity is a widespread common disorder which, if not treated in time, leads to ulcer formation in the digestive tract. It is mainly caused when hydrochloric acid, an important component of the digestive juices, is produced in excess.

Symptoms of Acidity (heartburn)
Burning sensation in the chest and throat. Sour oral secretion/belching. Vomiting, headache. Heat in the body. Lack of appetite.
Home Remedies for Acidity (heartburn)-
About 200 to 500 ml of cold milk taken in sips during the day and at bedtime proves very beneficial in controlling acidity. A decoration of sandal (chandan) may be consumed thrice a day for relief. Tender fruit pulp of coconut may be taken from time to time. Tender coconut water soothes gastric irritation. Simple sugar-added cold water also if consumed brings down the acidity level immediately. However, diabetics should refrain from this remedy.
Yogic Treatment for Gas and Acidity
Eat easily digestible food by chewing each mouthful properly. Leafy vegetables like Palak, Bathua and Methi be made in to paste and added to dough for chapati and kept for 8-10 hours before cooking. Eat dry chapatis without consuming any water with it. Take warm water after about half an hour. At night take only milk and fruits.
Yoga Asanas for Gas and Acidity
Paschimottanasana, Ardhamatsyendrasana, Vajrasana, Suptavajrasana, Mayurasana, Makarasana, Pawanamuktasana, Halasana, etc.
Uddiyanabandh, Kapalbhati and Agnisar Pranayama are very useful. Nauli and Kunjal performed at regular interval can be very useful for treatment of gastric and acidity problem.
All these measures, if taken properly relieve the problem of excessive passing of gas and Acidity.
